F1 | Marchionne: “Goodbye to the Circus? The threat from Ferrari is very serious."

In the presentation conference of the Alfa Romeo Sauber team, Sergio Marchionne returned to talk about Ferrari's possible farewell to the Formula One circus, reiterating once again how serious and well-founded the threat is. According to Marchionne, in fact, when drafting the new regulations the right balance must be found between entertainment and the technical capabilities of the teams, without penalizing any party involved.

The common objective must certainly be to reduce costs, but at the same time not distort a Formula One concept that has been going on for years now. Marchionne also confirmed how Alfa Romeo and Ferrari go hand in hand: the farewell of the Scuderia di Maranello in 2021 would force the Biscione brand to end its experience together with the Sauber team.

Here are the words of Sergio Marchionne: “Chase Carey and I just agree that the sport needs to evolve. As Ferrari we are aware that costs must be reduced, but we must not create a business where the capabilities of each team are not considered. There are proposals on the table that we don't agree with, but we have until 2021 to talk about them. The desire is to find a meeting point, obviously."

“The threat of taking Ferrari out of Formula One is serious and this agreement changes nothing in economic terms. The Alfa Romeo – Sauber partnership expires in 2020-2021, just when Ferrari could exit and the two things are very connected. If Ferrari leaves, so will Alfa Romeo. I repeat a concept that I have expressed many times: we must find a solution for the good of sport, but we must be clear about what cannot be given up. It's a game where the right balance has been found between the parties involved." added
