F1 | Liberty Media, Ross Brawn and the 'compromise' to encourage the arrival of new manufacturers

Speaking to the microphones of the official Formula 1 website, Ross Brawn took stock of some of the most relevant technical issues of the moment. Among these, without a doubt, there is that inherent to the entry of new manufacturers into the Circus: manufacturers of the caliber of Cosworth, Porsche and Aston Martin, in fact, in recent months had seriously taken into consideration the prospect of a future in Circus, in the hope that the 2021 regulations would make Formula 1 cheaper and more accessible. In three years, however, no major revolutions are expected, which is why the motorists mentioned above have preferred to take a step back.

With this in mind, Ross Brawn, sporting director of Liberty Media, revealed that he had found the key to facilitating the access of new brands to Formula 1: “The drawbridge was raised and the current suppliers didn't want anyone else entering the Circus. But we found a compromise" – explained the former Mercedes and Ferrari engineer. “There are regulations that could allow newcomers to receive support from current participants. There will be components and technologies that will need to be shared if required. It's not as radical a change as what we were proposing, but it's still a good step in the right direction. There are also some good changes in the way the driver will have to manage the engine: I think this is very important from a sporting point of view. Current suppliers have recognized that they cannot close the door: if we start to get serious interest from another manufacturer or supplier, they have to cooperate to find ways to help that manufacturer enter Formula 1.".
