F1 | Latifi: “To be honest, I don't think I can return to Formula 1”
"I could take a sabbatical and then calmly decide with a view to 2024," said the Canadian
Formula 1 is about to say goodbye to Nicholas Latifi. The Williams driver, after three objectively colorless seasons, will be replaced by Logan Sargeant (Super License permitting, ed.). In 2023 the Canadian still doesn't have a seat in any category, at least officially, and could take a year off to better evaluate the future of his career. Among other things, by his own admission, the 27-year-old believes that returning to Formula 1 will be almost impossible.
“I would only consider a role as third driver if I had the real possibility of returning to the starting grid, but speaking honestly I don't think it will ever happen – Latifi admitted Beyond The Grid. Alex (Albon) did it last year, he showed that it's possible but he was in a different situation with Red Bull. They kept him there and he was still involved in the project, and honestly he deserved to come back. As for me, being on reserve without a clear path mapped out for a return is not what I want. If I can't find something suitable for me, I might even consider taking a gap year to clear my head and find something for 2024. There are still several options and I'm young, I'm only 27."
