F1 | Lando Norris signs a new multi-year contract with McLaren

It's only his third season in Formula 1 and Lando Norris has already won over fans, the team and two podiums, a number that could grow already during this season. On the eve of the Monaco Grand Prix the Woking team announced that they had secured the Englishman with a new multi-year contract.

Norris joined the team already in 2017 as a test driver, and after some free practice sessions in 2018 he was promoted to starting driver alongside Carlos Sainz. Lando immediately established himself as one of the new faces of young, but above all fast, Formula 1: this is demonstrated by the results on the track, especially those this season, where the Englishman seems to have carved out a place as a protagonist. Just together with the Spaniard, Norris brings McLaren back to the podium in the constructors' championship: a result that he knows is a rebirth after the ordeal of the marriage with Honda.

With this move, McLaren cements its plans for the future with Norris and Daniel Ricciardo, a line up that we will see again after 2022.

"I'm really pleased to have extended my collaboration with McLaren beyond 2022. I've been with the team for five years, I feel part of the family and I couldn't imagine starting a new phase of my career anywhere else – Norris revealed – McLaren supported me a lot already in the lower series and it was nice to learn and grow as a driver together with them".

"My commitment to McLaren is clear: I want to win races and become Formula 1 world champion and I want to do it with this team. Since 2017 our growth has been steady and we have big ambitions for the future".

"I want to thank Zak (Brown) and Andreas (Seidl) for the trust they showed in me from the beginning – continues Lando –  and to the team for giving me so much stability to continue my career. We have already experienced incredible moments together that I will never forget, two podiums and third place in the championship, and together with Daniel and the whole team I can't wait to raise the bar and achieve even more success in the future".
