The Mexican driver looks back on a season full of emotions

F1 | Perez's parable: “I needed results but I didn't have updates on my car”

Sergio Perez with a tweet retraced his 2020 in points, the Mexican's best year in F1, a winning parable through moments of pitch darkness.

A season that could become a film, for a driver who overcame a thousand difficulties only to find the deserved rewards for what he showed behind the wheel, namely the first career victory and the seat of a top team (Red Bull).

Checo explains how at the beginning he knew he had the best car he had ever driven, but the results weren't coming. He then admits that he thought he had lost everything when he tested positive for Covid and missed two races. He returned in great form but, as if that wasn't enough, he was torpedoed by Racing Point and found himself without a seat for 2021.

Here are the two most bitter points. “I needed the best results on the track but the updates were not available for my car." a real blow to a team that he loved so much.

Perez then continues: “We had a podium within reach (Imola ed) we had the wrong strategy and the podium was lost. Then finally the podium arrived (Türkiye ed). I had another podium within reach which would have been very important for my future but the engine blew up a few laps before the end of the GP (Bahrain ed).

Among a thousand difficulties then came the extraordinary victory of Sakhir – “my first in my career and I brought Mexico to first place after half a century" – the contract with Red Bull, that top team”for which I have worked my entire life."

Efforts paid off and never like in this case the Latin adage "Per aspera ad astra” is as apt as ever.
