F1 | McLaren clarifies: “We only think about Formula 1”

La McLaren clarified once and for all the objective of the 2018 season: to return to being fully competitive in Formula 1, especially now that the cycle Honda has concluded and a new engine will give the push to MCL33. Last year Fernando Alonso competed in the Indianapolis 500 and this season he will also participate in the World Championship Endurance and 24 Hours of Le Mans. These participations are not distractions for the Spaniard, as also stated by Eric boullier, but on the contrary they help the driver at work and keep him in force with the competition: “I think that the cars of IndyCar they are fantastic, they are very good, but it is too early, with everything we have to do in Formula 1, the mechanics and engineers we work with are 100% focused, if Jonathan Neale, John Allert – Group Brand Manager McLaren-, Eric Boullier and I don't use 100% of our time in Formula 1, we will be distracted,” he commented for Racer magazine. His goal now is obviously focused on two aspects: looking for more sponsors for his team – something difficult after three years of poor performance – and putting himself in a good position in view of the big regulatory change scheduled for 2021, a regulation to which the Formula 1 is working in this period: “I have to find more partners for our F1 team, so if I try to find an IndyCar team or move to other categories, then I waste time looking for funding for the team, which is the priority number one,” he added. “So I think before we go to any other category, we need to get back to the podium in F1 and just think about that. And of course, thinking about the business, we have to establish a strategy for ten years,” said the American.
