F1 | Haas will not prevent Grosjean from racing in the Sakhir GP
"If he's fine, the plan is to have him race here for the next race. He has to decide for himself," said team principal Gunther Steiner
The Sunday of the Bahrain Grand Prix gave us quite a few chills, due to the violent accident in which Romain Grosjean was the protagonist, despite himself. The Frenchman from Haas, who remained under observation in hospital last night, fortunately did not suffer any fractures but only burns.
In a few days the Circus will return to racing again in Sakhir, on a different layout than the classic one, and the American team's plan A is to put Grosjean in the car hoping for his complete physical and mental recovery.
"If he is well the plan is to have him race here for the next race – said Gunther Steiner to motorsport-magazin.com – Before making any assumptions, however, I want to speak to Romain. We only spoke on the phone, but I'll go to the hospital and see what's really going on".
The Haas team principal then added: “He has to decide for himself, I won't tell him what to do. He was already in a good mood, he even cracked a few jokes".
Steiner also denied the possibility that Haas, due to the extensive damage to the number 8 car, will not be able to field a second car in the Sakhir GP: "Even though our budget is small, we have enough parts to build a second car from scratch”. The FIA will inspect the remains of the VF-20 in detail with the South Tyrolean manager explaining: “NThere's no rush because we can't use anything from this machine anymore".
