F1, FOTA will internally discuss FIA decision to return to Bahrain

Formula 1 teams will discuss the FIA's controversial decision to return to Bahrain as early as this year. Despite the recent revolutionary unrest on the island, the World Motor Sport Council unanimously voted to reinstate the Bahrain GP on the calendar at the end of October.

Bernie Ecclestone reiterated that the decision has nothing to do with the annual tax of 40 million dollars paid annually by Bahrain, but observers and insiders have pointed out the country's clear violations in terms of human rights and the concerns, still present, for the safety of team employees.

Mark Webber has so far been the only driver to comment on the decision, and on Saturday he said he was not at all comfortable with the idea of go to Bahrain.

Red Bull seems to agree with its driver having declared that the decision will be discussed "in the appropriate forum".

A McLaren spokesperson said: “The decision is likely to be discussed internally with FOTA and a shared position may be finalized later.”

Norbert Haug of Mercedes also agrees: “We will discuss it within FOTA”.
