F1 | Kvyat explains why he didn't kneel before the race in Austria
“It goes against my Russian mentality: we kneel for the homeland, the flag and God,” Daniil said
La formula 1 is working on the front line in the fight against racism. He is doing it in all possible ways so that he can educate, at least trying, the vast audience of the Circus. Before last Sunday's race in Austria, some pilots, among them Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel they knelt, as has become "tradition" in recent weeks, while others like Leclerc e Verstappen they freely chose not to do so. Rightly, everyone has thought to show their support in their own way, and for this they absolutely should not be judged. Also Daniil Kvyat, pilot ofAlpha Tauri was among the pilots to remain standing, and to the Russian broadcaster 1TV he explained why.
“When they suggested kneeling, as a gesture of struggle against racism, it was a bit incomprehensible to me – Kvyat admitted. The reason is simple: it goes against my Russian mentality, we kneel for the country, the flag and God. All the pilots are united in this battle against racial discrimination, we showed our position by wearing the t-shirt with the writing "End Racism” before the start of the race last Sunday”.
