F1 | Kubica: “It was worth trying”

The Polish driver declared that despite the disappointment of losing his official position at the Williams, his last few years of hard work paid off in the end though; she will in fact be the third driver of the English team and will take part in three free practice sessions during the 2018 championship.

The accident 7 years ago caused serious consequences to his arm Kubica, so much so that he thought he would never be able to drive again. Instead, willpower always pays off and Robert proved it to us. Last year, the first approach in a single-seater with Renault had given good feedback and when he tried with Williams, the signature seemed almost close.

However, this was not the case.

Kubica admitted that he was disappointed to have missed the opportunity to tackle an entire season but nevertheless, look at the glass half full:

“When you are so close to a goal, there is a risk that things may not go as planned. But we must evaluate the general picture: the last 12 months of my life have been very positive, no one imagined that I could drive an F1 again, no one thought that I would have this possibility. Obviously you always hope for a happy ending, I hoped I could have a place but the most important thing about last year was that it gave me confidence that I could do it physically and psychologically; all the hard work paid off. There is more satisfaction than thinking you didn't make it. These situations are much more positive than negative. I admit I wanted that place but I see things more globally and I can still see the positive side.".

Williams confirmed that Kubica will take part in three free practice sessions and on this point, the Pole added that it is an important opportunity to be able to test on the track:

“If we think about where I was 12 months ago, no one believed I would be here, no one believed I would be fighting for a place in Formula 1. Everything can change quickly, so for me it was important to have the opportunity to drive. I'm happy to be part of Williams and to fill this role, which is not quite the standard reserve driver, where you go to the races and do nothing. It was important for me to have the opportunity to drive because only by driving can I - and I say maybe because in life you never know - have the opportunity to reach the final goal. Last year gave me the energy to believe that it's possible, that doesn't mean it will happen but I know it was worth it.".
