F1 | Jos Verstappen reveals: “Lauda wanted to bring Max to Mercedes”

As a great champion and connoisseur of talent that he was, Niki Lauda had seen a lot about Max Verstappen's qualities and would have liked to bring him to Mercedes. Jos Verstappen revealed this background in the documentary Maximum aired on Dutch TV. A negotiation which, had it gone through, would most likely have changed the fate and recent history of Formula 1 and its main protagonists.

"Niki Lauda wanted to bring Max to Mercedes – said Verstappen senior – I remember that as soon as we got out of the Red Bull camper after a meeting we found him immediately in front of us".

The current Red Bull TP Chris Horner also thought of echoing Jos's memory, with the English manager underlining how the Anglo-Austrian team had immediately ready the countermove: “Red Bull's ace in the hole was allowing Verstappen to enter Formula 1 straight away".
