F1 | Jos Verstappen: “Max has learned a lot from Schumacher”

F1 - Jos Verstappen highlighted the similarities between his son and Michael Schumacher, dwelling on some episodes that influenced his growth: “We often went karting with Mick and Max. Michael did not differentiate between them. If he had advice, he gave it to both of them. It is likely that Max benefited from those experiences”.

Jos Verstappen and Max's attitudes

According to Verstappen senior, his son's winning attitude is partly the result of those days spent alongside the seven-time world champion: "Max has many traits in common with Michael, given that he is inflexible on the track, but in his private life he is a sweet, sensitive person who cares about others." There is no doubt, also in light of these statements, that the bond with Schumacher represented a significant stage in the career of the Red Bull champion. Having shared moments of training with a motorsport legend, capable of winning 91 victories and seven world titles, allowed the four-time world champion to learn not only driving techniques, but also a winning mental approach.

Endurance chapter: it is no secret that one of the Dutch driver's wishes is to share an endurance race with his father, such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans. However, Jos does not believe that this project can materialize due to the differences in performance between the two. Max is in the prime of his career, while Jos has not been in a racing car for several years: "Max keeps talking about it, he would love it. However, I am quite sceptical. I would be too slow for him and that is why, at the moment, I exclude it."
