F1 | Leclerc accident, Rosberg points the finger at Ferrari's strategic choices

At the end of qualifying which took place last Saturday in Baku, Nico Rosberg expressed his opinion on the error that did not allow Charles Leclerc to compete for pole in Azerbaijan, underlining how the impact in turn eight was caused by excessive confidence of the Monegasque and by a completely incorrect strategic choice of the wall.

According to the former Mercedes driver, in fact, Ferrari followed a path that was too risky with the soft compounds, especially with the temperature conditions present in Baku, an aspect that ruined the excellent work of the entire weekend.

“It's incredible how Ferrari manages to get everything wrong every time,” declared Nico Rosberg at the end of Saturday's qualifying. “They threw everything away in qualifying. Leclerc had the means and potential to achieve pole position, but unfortunately that mistake ruined his weekend. In any case, I don't want to give him all the responsibility for what happened, given that a large part of the blame lies with Ferrari. In Q2 they wanted to prove themselves more intelligent, putting the softs in a complicated situation. They had too much confidence in their own means and right there they lost everything."

Rosberg later stated: “I shook my head when I realized what they had in mind. On a city track of that type, with those temperatures, it is very risky to risk a strategy of that type. Riders need rhythm and continuity. Unfortunately the decision backfired and Leclerc ended up on the barriers due to lack of grip.".

“Ferrari made a mistake and that choice dashed any hope of seeing the Monegasque in pole position,” concluded the German. “We all want to see the Red team battle with the Mercedes, so as to push them to the maximum, and this is certainly not the right path. What happened was terrible and disheartening."
