F1 | In Türkiye the best Ferrari of the season, but one swallow does not make a summer

On Sunday we found ourselves almost displaced in front of the television. Honestly, not even the most optimistic of optimists could have ever imagined, after the lackluster performance obtained on Saturday in qualifying with the double elimination in Q2, both Ferraris among the top positions in the Istanbul race.

Sebastian Vettel third and Charles Leclerc fourth, with the Monegasque penalized by an error at the penultimate corner which affected his personal result (he could have finished second). True, Ferrari achieved the best double result of the season but a single race is not enough to make Maranello – as if by magic – a regular candidate for the podium again between now and the end of the season, where another three races await us.

In fact, we need to contextualize the ways in which the Red team "gave birth" to the Top 4. The main variable is linked, it seems, with a shadow of a doubt to the weather conditions that hit Istanbul Park, which allowed us to witness a race full of emotions and twists. With an uncertain ending for the top positions, except for the victory obtained by Lewis Hamilton with a masterful job of tire management.

Because without rain, which undoubtedly leveled the forces on the track, Ferrari would hardly have been able to navigate in the noble area of ​​the standings, having instead to settle for a placing in the points. There have been improvements to the SF1000, linked to the updates brought in the latest races, but from here we can think that the road is completely downhill and without obstacles. The problems of the Red Team, including that of making the tires work in the right window of use, exist and the appointments in Bahrain (where a double round is scheduled on the Sakhir track) and the final one in Abu Dhabi will be able to give us greater signals on competitiveness of Maranello.

Going to the Middle East we should see regular races on paper, which should not be conditioned by the vagaries of the weather, but above all they will be tracks where cavalry will be important. The real Achilles' heel of Ferrari 2020, conditioned this winter by the secret agreement with the Federation which effectively destroyed the current power unit of the Cavallino.

Now all that remains is to leave room for the track again, to understand if Ferrari's performance is really improving and thus hope for continuity of results or if what was achieved in Turkey was merely a coincidence. Because one swallow doesn't make a summer...
