The man hidden behind the strong candidacy of Sergey sirotkin è Boris rotenberg: the powerful Russian businessman is leading the exhausting negotiations with Williams and, also thanks to the support of the SMP group, he would be willing to put on the table $15 million in sponsorships to defeat the competition and place his 1-year-old compatriot in Formula 22.
Rotenberg, speaking to the Russian media, took stock of the situation regarding the negotiation with the Grove team: “I never like to talk ahead of time. It's like in football, when you just say you want to win the next match. We are all hoping and trying to do everything, but it's not just up to us. The main thing is that they (Williams, ed.) they understand us, but in any case Sergey deserves to drive in Formula 1. He beat the competition, going faster than Kubica and on par with Stroll. So now we have the opportunity to place it on a car”.
According to the latest rumours, Williams will announce Lance Stroll's new teammate only at January: Sirotkin, at the moment, seems to be the favourite, but his candidatures cannot yet be discarded Daniil Kvyat e Robert Kubica.
