F1 – Teams invited to respect tire parameters even before Rosberg's exit

Formula 1 teams had already been asked to carefully respect tire safety limits before Nico Rosberg went off the track, caused by a tire failure in Free Practice 2 of the Belgian GP.

Charlie Whiting of the FIA had issued a technical directive after Free Practice 1 in which he underlined that checks on tire parameters would be implemented for safety reasons. The parameters that would have been subjected to control by the FIA were minimum starting pressure, front and rear, maximum EOS camber – front and rear, tire swapping between left and right, front and rear. Whiting added that the checks would be repeated in future races as well.

At the moment there is still no news regarding the parameters adopted by Mercedes on Rosberg's car at the time of the German's exit.

“The failure clearly started from the inside of the shoulder, which is always more stressed apart, and this is a tough circuit for the tyres,” said Paddy Lowe, Mercedes technical director. “But we don't want to have prejudices about the causes before we have found them. Pirelli has imposed, particularly on this circuit where historically there have been problems with the tyres, some limits which were declared earlier this week for pressures and camber."

Lowe confirmed that Pirelli can change the pressures if a possible technical problem with the tires is discovered: "But it's too early, really too early to talk about a problem with the tyres."

Pirelli is currently investigating the problem accused by Rosberg.
