F1 teams ask Ecclestone to review next year's calendar

Formula 1 teams are set to ask Bernie Ecclestone to review his plans for the 2012 calendar amid fears that the end of the racing season next year will prove a logistical nightmare.

Earlier this weekend, Ecclestone undertook a major reshuffle of the original 2012 racing calendar published by the FIA in June.

Just as Bahrain advanced to the final part of the season and the exclusion of Turkey, the United States Grand Prix in Austin is destined to become the penultimate race of the season, before closing the season in Brazil.

Ecclestone presented his calendar idea to the teams at this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix to get their feedback, but it is understood there is some concern about the final part of the overseas calendar.

In particular, the teams are worried about six races at the end of the season in quick succession – we go to Japan/Korea, Abu Dhabi/Bahrain and the USA/Brazil – and above all on different continents.

Renault team principal Eric Boullier has revealed that the teams now plan to ask Ecclestone to review the calendar to make logistics easier for the teams.

Boullier declined to talk about the specifics of what the teams want, but said they have formulated a proposal.

“We have a proposal between us and we would like to suggest a couple of ideas,” he said. “We are not involved in the final calendar decision, but I understand it is not final so there is room to ask for discussion and make suggestions.”

McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh added: “The calendar is tough, but I understand it's about to change again. So, until we have the final calendar, there is no point in complaining about a provisional one.”
