F1 | The 5 steps designed by Formula 1 to guarantee the safe conduct of the GPs

Formula 1 will return to the track on 5 July in Austria, where the first meeting of the 2020 season will take place with the new calendar revised following the pandemic which had stopped the championship even before taking to the track in Australia.

Naturally, however, Formula 1, the Automobile Federation and the local authorities worked together to allow the event to take place safely. To succeed in this aim, Liberty Media explained the 5 steps that allowed Formula 1 to return to racing on the track, while still respecting all local rules and laws:

  • Private tests: using private testing, all staff attending the track will be tested prior to travel and, of course, the result must be negative to allow entry to the event. The tests will also be carried out consistently during the events, together with specific screening before arriving on the track
  • Races behind closed doors: the first events of the world championship will be without spectators, guests and partners. Only essential and authorized personnel will be allowed to enter the confines of the circuits
  • Staff reduced to the essential: there will be a drastic reduction in the number of personnel who will be allowed to travel and enter the circuit, both for the teams, the FIA and F1 itself. To help this process, part of the functions will be carried out remotely, such as television direction. Furthermore, teams will be asked to remain isolated and interact as little as possible with rival teams.
  • Isolated trips: all staff who will be present at the events will travel separately, with private charters and hotels
  • Minimum distance: the minimum distance must be respected everywhere. Pre- and post-race activities, such as the national anthem, parc fermé, podium and cool down room, will be modified to ensure they are carried out safely.
