F1 | Horner: “Without the fin the cars would look better”
The Red Bull team principal criticizes the look of the 2017 cars
Christian horner he tried, but his appeal was of no avail. The Red Bull team principal, rather critical of the new "shark fin" of the 2017 cars, tried to do everything possible to eliminate it, but found the contrary opinion of many of his colleagues.
The look of the new cars has been widely acclaimed, but many have frowned upon the large canopy that covers the engine at the top of the single-seaters.
“I think the new cars are fantastic – Horner told Auto Motor und Sport – the only thing wrong with them are those very long engine covers. We discussed it in the strategy group and then we went to the commission but the request to ban them was rejected by the majority."
Horner branded everything as the result of the "usual paranoia" of Formula 1 teams.
“The performance gain with the fin is marginal – he explained – if I ask our aerodynamic experts they want to keep it, of course, but we need to make decisions that also consider the aesthetic point of view. Without the fin the cars would simply look better."
