F1 | Helmut Marko: “Ferrari? He could struggle in Monte Carlo"
“If he can't generate downforce and traction he can only be sixth and seventh,” he said
In an interview with Auto Bild, Helmut Marko discussed any difficulties that Ferrari might encounter on a slow track like Monte Carlo where the Monaco Grand Prix will take place next Sunday.
"Their engine is good but if Ferrari can't generate downforce and traction they can only be sixth and seventh in Monaco. Their weakness emerged clearly in the last sector of Barcelona”, underlined the Red Bull talent scout.
Marko, speaking instead of Mercedes, said: “They didn't even try to play hidden cards (in tests, ed.) and it didn't stop Mazepin from getting the best time. Thus their superiority becomes even more obvious. Even if he has a longer wheelbase, Mercedes' advantage will be even greater. Their car has monstrous traction and this is crucial in Monaco".
