F1 | Hamilton: "Pole would not have been possible in the dry, Ferrari too fast" [VIDEO]

By his own admission, he could not have taken pole in the dry, given the impressive speed displayed up to that point by the Ferrari. But in aid of Hamilton the rain arrived today in qualifying. The pilot Mercedes he will therefore start tomorrow's race, flanked by his faithful squire Valtteri Bottas, from whom he took the best lap at the last second. Here are the words at the end of the day from the reigning British world champion.

“Great for the team to do this double! We didn't expect it, honestly: the Ferraris were very fast all weekend, we tried to be as close to them as possible but then the weather changed... On the track at the beginning the situation was also acceptable, but then it got wet more and more and it was difficult to understand how much grip there was: a truly extreme challenge."

“It was a very complicated qualifying: we started with an almost dry track, made the right calls, with perfect timing… If you go out on track a minute earlier or a minute later things can change considerably. When they tell you that you have a chance to make a difference you have to give it your all. I knew I was a little bit behind Kimi at that moment and Valtteri had also overtaken me. I saw it and tried to stay calm: my engineer pumped me up. We knew that in dry conditions it would not be possible to take pole here because the Ferrari was too fast. We worked like this with a second row perspective, but then things changed and we were given first position. It was not an obvious opportunity; we worked hard as a team and we will have to do it again tomorrow to keep the Reds behind."
