F1 | Hamilton complains about the tyres: "They are the same as 2016, we have to work on them"

Lewis Hamilton has concluded the Australian GP al 2 th, after having "lost" the lead due to unexpected tire degradation which forced him to make an earlier pit stop than planned. The English driver, in fact, even on the team radio at his pit wall, complained several times about the tires: "There is something we need to work on: our tire usage. We need to make changes to improve in the future, which we will do. If they had a better second stint it means they had more pace on the ultra softs. I think I had more pace in the second stint but, when I stopped ahead of schedule, I didn't know how long the tires would last. I didn't push to close the gap knowing that I couldn't overtake with the risk of running out of tires at the end and losing second place."Said Hamilton as reported by GP Update.

According to the pilot of the Mercedes, also, new tires Pirelli they are actually not very different from those of the 2016: “The tires are very similar to the ones we had before. There is not a big difference in the characteristics, in the sense that they get hotter, they wear out, they are bigger and harder. Last year we had the soft and super soft, this year it's like having one or two more rigid steps, so they last longer, there is less graining, but it's the same as in the past"Hamilton concluded.
