In a chat given to the international media, Toto wolff spoke about the possible commitment of Lewis Hamilton in Mercedes also in the 2022 season, highlighting how the parties involved will discuss an extension of the current agreement only at a later time, probably this summer. According to the Team Principal of the Anglo-German team, the signature on the current contract is valid exclusively for 2021, an aspect that will have to push Wolff and the seven-time world champion to sit at the negotiating table again

“We didn't want to continue discussions forever,” said Toto wolff. “We have found an agreement for 2021 and have concentrated on signing. For 2022, however, we will meet again and decide what to do, obviously based on how things go. Let's put it this way, we did the journalists a favor. We wanted to continue giving away material so we can return to theater this summer"
