F1 | Hamilton: “Indecision on the new aerodynamic package”

The English driver stated that a decision will be made this evening regarding the new aerodynamic package that should be used for the Grand Prix of Suzuka.

The German team had introduced a new update in Malaysia, during free practice. However, Lewis Hamilton, preferred to use the “old” version for qualification; a decision that proved effective as the Englishman took pole. In reverse Valtteri Bottas, regretted using the new update, after finishing in fifth place.

Today Hamilton declared that the discussion is still open:

“The kids want to go in one direction but I'm skeptical and I prefer to go in the other. I have a lot of faith in my team and I know that they want to win just as I do too so I'm sure that we will make the right decision together. It's always important to challenge yourself and as a rider, I want to challenge them. They have the numbers but I still challenge them because although it is an important result, the perfect number is not always the best even on the track. I heard that it might rain tomorrow so it's even more difficult for us to decide which setup to use. We will probably make a decision by the end of the day.".

After the race in Malaysia, Hamilton declared that he had a good idea of what type of setup to use for the race in Japan but today he declared that it is not easy to predict the performance of his W08:

“I'm confident in the car's performance but I'm not yet clear where it will be competitive like at Silverstone or where we will struggle, like in Singapore and Malaysia. If we look at the last race, we were far away and in an instant we found ourselves on pole. I walked around and I still don't know where it came from. We are leading the championship, we have a good car and it's just a matter of learning more because there is always something new that can catch us unprepared".
