F1 | Hakkinen 'exonerates' Vettel: “Overtaking Verstappen? He had to try this move”
"He risked a lot, but this is part of Formula One," said the Finn
di Piero Ladisa9 October 2018
Mika Hakkinen does not condemn Sebastian Vettel for the unsuccessful overtaking maneuver on Max Verstappen at Spoon Curve during the eighth lap of the Japanese Grand Prix.
For the Finn, the Ferrari standard bearer was right to take the risk: “In the position he is in he had to attempt this move to maximize the result, given the strength of Mercedes”, he told Bild.
"If you don't attack you don't win anything. Yes, he risked a lot but this is part of Formula One”, concluded the former McLaren driver.
