F1 | Haas, Steiner on the choice to focus on Hulkenberg: "We needed an expert driver"

Haas will be one of the teams that will present itself at the starting line of the new season with a half-modified lineup. With Kevin Magnussen confirmed, the American team has decided to focus on Nico Hulkenberg who takes the place of compatriot Mick Schumacher. Hulkenberg covered the first kilometers driving the Haas during the Pirelli test which took place on Tuesday at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.

Arguing for the choice made by the stars and stripes team, Guenther Steiner admitted that he wanted to focus on an expert driver like the former Aston Martin reserve to try to make a leap forward.

"He has driven two races for Aston Martin this year, and has done quite well – said Steiner, interviewed by the Beyond The Grid podcast – We evaluated what was best for the team and in the end it turned out that it is better to have an experienced driver to make the team progress faster. Because in a Formula 1 team you have to go fast, otherwise you lose momentum and fall behind".
