F1 | Haas, Steiner on the 2020 line-up: "We won't focus on a rookie"
“We are talking about very difficult decisions to make,” added the Team Principal
Despite the rumors that have circulated in recent weeks, Gunther Steiner will not rely on a rookie when it comes to the Haas team line-up for the 2020 season.
According to what was reported by the South Tyrolean manager, in fact, the American team will favor experience when choosing drivers for 2020, avoiding young drivers coming from the Academy at least for now. A curious choice, but which the team justifies with the need to reduce the margin of error to zero (an aspect that will probably lead to Romain Grosjean's loosening up at the end of this World Cup. Ed.).
“We are talking about very difficult decisions to make,” said Gunther Steiner to the official Formula 1 website. “It's an opportunity with a high level of risk. As a team we could do it, but the question is: do we want to do it? If I think back to this year, for example, a line-up made up of young riders certainly wouldn't help us, given that we got a little lost with the tyres. A young person doesn't help you in this situation."
On Pietro Fittipaldi's situation he added: “At the moment we need our official drivers in the car. We are ninth in the championship standings and since this is not our objective, we need track tests. We have to improve and this leads me not to promise anything to Pietro [Fittipaldi.ed.]”.
