The team principal of the American team perceives a situation of balance behind Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull

F1 | Haas, Steiner doesn't hide: “Fighting for fourth place? We want to be there"

The brilliant Haas seen in Barcelona during the last winter tests it could be a candidate for the role of outsider in the championship. Fresh from a double eighth place in the constructors' championship, the American team hopes to be able to get closer to the mid-table group and to be able to enter into battle with the teams immediately behind Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull: "We want to be there, hopefully: we should be able to be there” – declared the team principal Guenther Steiner a racer.com. “Last year we finished eighth, but we were chasing sixth place: by eight points (detachment from Renault, ed.), it's not great, but it wasn't a disaster. We were there with everyone else and maybe we got a little closer, then sometimes you lose and other times you win.".

According to Steiner, this year the competition will be very tight, also due to the absence, at least apparent, of a "buffer team": “Now there is no longer any weak team, the fight will be quite challenging: it is one of the most competitive seasons in Formula 1 in a long time. Apart from the first three who are in a different championship, but the rest of the group is very competitive, very close".
