F1 | Haas, Romain Grosjean: “It was terrible”

The Japanese Grand Prix is certainly one to forget for Haas which, after a brief glimmer of light in qualifying thanks to Romain Grosjean's tenth place, finished the race outside the points zone.

Kevin Magnussen, however, was unable to set a time during this morning's qualifying: his Haas number 20 ended up in the wall in the last corner. The Dane managed to bring the car back to the pits, but there was no time to repair the damage: he therefore started from the last row.

Grosjean started on the soft tyre, the one used to qualify for Q3, only to stop once and fit hard tyres.

"Well, it didn't go as we hoped. The beginning was terrible, I don't know why. I was behind Kevin in turn one, which shows how terrible it was” the Frenchman, in fact, started from tenth place on the grid, while his teammate started from the back of the grid.

"From there it was very difficult to recover. We pushed hard and put on the hard tire to make a single stop. Honestly, I made two really good overtakes on Russell e Giovinazzi on the outside of the first and second curves. This was the highlight of my race. After that I just had to manage the tires. Our pace wasn't good, what a shame. We will continue to work and see if the next race goes well for us".

Magnussen, on the other hand, started with the medium tyres, and then mounted the hard and soft tyres at the end of the race.

"I started last and immediately recovered positions up to twelfth, which I was quite happy with, but then I collapsed again at the bottom. It wasn't terrible in terms of tires and speed, at least not like in previous races. If everything had been in the right place, if I had started where I was supposed to and had a good start, the result of my race would obviously have been better. We had no pace today".
