F1 | Haas, Romain Grosjean: “We pushed ourselves to the limit, we were just a whisker away from Q2”

Just over a tenth separated Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen from entering Q2. Once again the qualification of the two Haas drivers is interrupted after the first session, and the two VF-20s will position themselves on the grid tomorrow in sixteenth and fifteenth position. Results on average in line with what was the only free practice session of this anomalous weekend in Imola, where Grosjean classified thirteenth, while Magnussen remained stuck in nineteenth position.

"There are a lot of circuits that can learn from the historical ones. When you drive here in Imola, or on circuits like the Nürburgring or Mugello, it's a crazy pleasure – said Grosjean, who joins the ranks of drivers who have praised the Imola circuit – I really enjoyed it. Sure, our car isn't the fastest, but every lap is fun. It's a shame we didn't get into Q2, especially after doing that good lap. Kevin's situation is the same, we pushed ourselves to the limit. Unfortunately, we only managed to place sixteenth and seventeenth. However, we know that we usually do better in the race. Everything will depend on the tire dictate, which will be a key element of tomorrow's race, but we will try. We will give 100%".

Kevin Magnussen also enjoyed the Romagna curves, seventeenth.

"I enjoyed myself. It's a really nice circuit. Obviously, I'm not very happy with the result, although I think we are a little stronger this weekend. We should have entered Q2, but my qualifying wasn't easy, I found traffic and, moreover, I had some problems with the gearbox, nothing serious, but it affected my times. The gap from Q2 was really small, it's frustrating. I foresee a fun race and, as I said, it's a nice circuit, at least I'll enjoy the driving. I will try to do my best to get a good result".
