F1 | Haas, Magnussen: “We are fast in qualifying but we need to improve in the race”

The debut race in Australia had given rise to hope Kevin Magnussen , Haas. It is no mystery that the objective set for this World Cup is to fight with Renault for fourth place in the constructors' championship, although the eight points in Melbourne remain the only points in the standings for the driver and the team to date.

Despite the excellent qualifying performances obtained in Australia, Bahrain and China, the race pace did not bring the desired results. “It's good to know that the car is competitive on the lap – said Magnussen. Consequently it should also be the case in the race. We will work on this aspect."

According to Danish the race pace problem could be related to the tires when the car is full of fuel: “The only difference between qualifying and the race is that the car fills up with petrol and you do more laps on the same set of tyres. I think therefore there must be some set-up to fix with the tyres."

“We don't understand the full picture yet but we are working to find a solution – continued Magnussen. The tires are slightly different this year: we will try to get more in the race."

Finally, a thought about the upcoming race in Baku, where the Dane hopes to get into the points: “Baku is a track with low downforce with very long straights, slow corners and very low grip. It will be interesting to see how we go on this type of track. It won't be our strongest circuit of the year but I'm still positive: we can fight for points. Baku always offers exciting races, we can't wait to race."
