F1 | Haas, Magnussen: “2017 was my best year in racing, but not in qualifying”

The Dane explains this singular trend: "The oversteer penalizes me, but with a full tank of fuel the situation improves"

F1 | Haas, Magnussen: “2017 was my best year in racing, but not in qualifying”

Bad on Saturday, good on Sunday: Kevin Magnussen draws a brief assessment of his first season in Haas. The 25-year-old Dane, in qualifying, came in behind Romain Grosjean on twelve occasions out of twenty: on the other hand, he revealed himself as one of the most prolific drivers at the start, with an average of 1,74 positions recovered at the start. “I think it was my best year, especially on Sunday, but at the same time he wasn't the best in qualifying." – said Magnussen.

This singular tendency is also due to the not always satisfactory balance of his VF-17: "This car suffers a bit from oversteer when entering corners, this is not my favorite balance: I struggle a bit when there is oversteer on turn-in. I can manage the car mid-corner and exiting, even at high speed, but if I can't brake and enter the corner with the rear stable, I struggle more, so this year it's been a bit of a problem . In competition – concluded Magnussen – with a full tank of fuel the situation is improving".
