F1 | Haas confirms Pietro Fittipaldi as test driver for 2022

Through an official press release released on Thursday morning by the team, Haas confirmed Pietro Fittipaldi as "Official Test & Reserve Driver" also for the 2022 season, for what will be his fourth consecutive year with the American team.

The Brazilian driver had the opportunity to make his debut at the wheel of a Haas car in 2018, when he took part in the end-of-season tests on the Abu Dhabi track, where he also returned at the end of 2020, this time to replace the Romain Grosjean injured following the accident in Bahrain. Next year too, Fittipaldi will accompany the team's work along the various events of the calendar, playing the role of reserve driver and test driver in those sessions in which it will be necessary to field a driver with a maximum of two Formula 1 races under his belt . For the team it is also a sort of continuity, given the numerous changes that Gene Haas' team is facing over the last few months.

“I am naturally very happy and excited by the opportunity to continue my relationship with the Uralkali Haas F1 Team. I've been with the team for a few seasons now and it feels like family. I have learned a lot in my time here and hope to continue to contribute with the introduction of the new generation of Formula 1 cars in 2022. It will be exciting to see what is coming with the new package and I am obviously as excited as the rest of the team to see what the VF-22 will achieve on the track,” Fittipaldi said about next year, when the new generation of cars designed by Liberty Media will be introduced to increase the spectacle on the track.

“This was a very simple decision for us, to keep Pietro as our test driver and reserve reserve driver. Pietro knows very well how our team works from the inside, having been with us for so long. He showed us last year that he was ready to step up and lead when needed and obviously his presence in the team this year has brought continuity. We are delighted to continue our relationship and look forward to having him on board again in 2022,” added Haas team principal Gunther Steiner.
