Circuit
Name: Circuit Zandvoort
Place: Netherlands
Construction: The Zandvoort circuit returns to the Formula 1 calendar after 36 years. The return was scheduled last year but due to the Covid-19 pandemic it was postponed to this year. The Dutch track should have been commissioned in 1939 but with the outbreak of the Second World War it was only completed in 1948. After the announcement of its return to the calendar in 2018, the owners of the circuit wanted to make some changes to the track to comply with the new regulations of safety, encountering many complaints from environmentalists in the area.
Distance per lap: 4 259 km
Number of curves: 14
Special features of the route
Given its inauguration way back in 1948, the Zandvoort circuit is an old school track characterized by tight, fast corners as well as numerous elevation changes. Turn 14 in particular is taken at full speed, generating forces in excess of 4g. In other corners (1 and 11), braking generates forces of around 5g. Turn 7 is taken at a speed of over 260 km/h, and is another point where lateral forces of around 5g are generated. This is immediately followed by curves 8 and 9 which complete a series of three consecutive curves with high g forces.
Service
For the Dutch Grand Prix, the drivers will have these compounds available: C1, C2 and C3. The track is located near a beach of sand dunes which are sometimes deposited on the track by the wind, compromising the grip.
