Lewis Hamilton took his 89th career pole in the downpour of Austria. The Mercedes driver recorded his best time in 1:19.273, giving a gap of one and a half seconds to his teammate, Valtteri Bottas who was fourth today.

Second position for Max Verstappen who attempted to take pole away from the six-time world champion but was involved in a spin at the end.

Third time for a very good Carlos Sainz on McLaren who precedes the other Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas and the Renault of Esteban Ocon.

Sixth was Lando Norris, followed by the other Red Bull of Alex Albon and the Alpha Tauri of Pierre Gasly.

The top 10 of the times closes qualification, Daniel Ricciardo's Renault and Sebastian Vettel's Ferrari.

Charles Leclerc was eliminated from Q3 and will start from eleventh position, just eight thousandths of a second behind George Russell's Williams.
