F1 | Chinese Grand Prix, Ferrari – Another Red front row

Shanghai – A week after the Bahrain GP, Scuderia Ferrari once again places its single-seaters on the front row of the starting grid, with Seb Vettel obtaining pole, beating Kimi Raikkonen by just 0.087 during the qualifying session of the Grand Prix of China. With this result, the team obtains its 215th pole; the seventh for Sebastian with the colors of Scuderia Ferrari. In very different weather conditions compared to those encountered in Sakhir last weekend, the two SF71Hs proved to be very strong with both the Ultrasoft and Soft tyres. The latter is the tire they will use at the start tomorrow.

“It's a fantastic result and I'm happy for the team” said Seb. “Today the car was great and it was fantastic to fight between us teammates for the front row. Today it was windy and it wasn't easy to have the right feeling while riding. Anyway, when the car is fast and works, you gain more confidence and that helps. We didn't expect to be so strong compared to our rivals. Today we made some minimal changes to the car, but yesterday it was already working well. I made some mistakes on my first lap in turns 3 and 6, where I had oversteer. Here you have to be very careful with the tyres, so I knew that if I drove 'clean', the last part of the lap would go better. I didn't know what the others were doing, but I was pretty sure I could get pole because being one of the last I could take advantage of the improvement on the track. Tomorrow should be sunny, which will make the asphalt warmer. We'll see how it goes, but I think we'll be very close."

Kimi added: “We are happy with how things have gone so far this weekend. Today we were very close in qualifying; we did two good laps, but unfortunately I lost a bit of speed in the last sector and I wasn't able to improve. Without a doubt I would have liked more, but tomorrow is another day. We will start the race on the Softs, as will our rivals: it will be a little different to the other cars and I think it is the best situation. We did what we believed was best for us and that is assumed to ultimately lead to the best outcome. Our goal is to win. First and foremost, we have to do a good job tomorrow and make the best of what's to come. So far I think we've done well in all the races; we got even more out of the car and learned more and more things. We were consistent and things went well. Obviously we still have to improve here and there, but this is normal, you never stop learning."
