F1 GP Hungary, Qualifying: Pole to Rosberg, Hamilton caught by the yellow flag

Nico Rosberg takes home the start at the post of Hungarian GP in a Qualification that will be remembered as the longest in the history of F1. In fact, the pouring rain first postponed the start and then caused several off-track exits and consequent interruptions. After two hours, however, the German of the Mercedes he managed to snatch pole by 143 thousandths from his reigning world champion rival. At the end it was in fact the yellow flag that spoiled the party Hamilton: the Briton was unable to improve due to his off-track exit Alonso, while Rosberg he flew towards the first square. Third half for the Red Bull di Ricciardo, who will start in front of his teammate Verstappen. Third row for Hag and a great one Sainz, while the two McLaren together with Hulkenberg e Bottas complete the top ten.

News – Q1 – Departure postponed for 20 minutes due to rain: a downpour hit the circuit area during the lunch break, making the track impassable. One minute from the start the cars are already lined up in the pit lane, with Massa leading the way. Everyone inside with the wet tyre, the blue full wet. Not even enough time to complete the first lap, however, the radio announces that more rain is expected in a few minutes. Hulkenberg and Perez were the first to stop the clock, with the Mexican taking the lead in 1:41.411. Followed by Hulkenberg, Alonso, Nasr, Ricciardo, Bottas, Verstappen, Grosjean, Vettel and Palmer. But the rain is lurking again and it is impossible to continue filming. Red flag and everyone in the pits!

At 14.40pm the clock starts again. Everyone was on track immediately with Verstappen taking the lead but being dodged shortly afterwards by teammate Ricciardo, the fastest in 1:39.968. Behind the two Red Bulls we therefore find Perez, Hulkenberg, Alonso, Raikkonen, Rosberg, Nasr, Hamilton and Bottas. But a new stop didn't take long to arrive: Ericsson's Sauber hit the barriers. Another red flag and everyone back in the pits.

Third restart at 14.55pm. Vettel, Red Bull, Williams and Haas have meanwhile moved on to the intermediates, with 9 minutes left until the end of Q1. Hamilton goes long but manages to get back on track while Nasr takes the lead in 1:39.500. Immediately afterwards, however, Massa also lost control of his Williams at turn 4 and ended up against the barriers. He waves the red flag again. Kvyat meanwhile earned fourth place.

At 15.07pm the session resumes with all the riders switching to intermediate tyres, except Magnussen. Alonso and Hamilton immediately alternate in the lead while Vettel gains third place. But then Rosberg silenced everyone in 1:33.302. However, no one can reply to the German because another car crashes into the barriers and another red flag waves on the track. Haryanto Manor is knocked out on the runway. Less than a minute from the official end of the time available for Q1, the decision was made to move directly to Q2. Palmer, Massa, Magnussen, Ericsson, Wehrlein and Haryanto are thus excluded.

Q2 – Intermediate tire on the restart while the track is drying. Vettel immediately takes the lead but then Sainz, Grosjean, Rosberg and finally Hamilton do better. Then it's Ricciardo's turn in 1:32.088. Verstappen is ahead of him but Hamilton returns to the lead thanks to a time of 1:31.571. The riders switch to supersoft and the first to move up the rankings is Bottas. Then Alonso and then Perez, in 1:29.429. Vettel takes the lead from the Mexican then it's the turn of Alonso, Hamilton, Verstappen and Rosberg. The checkered flag waves and Raikkonen is the first to complete his flying lap, which gives him first position for a short while. After him, Sainz, Vettel, Hulkenberg, Alonso, Rosberg and finally Verstappen take turns, the fastest in 1:22.260. Grosjean, Kvyat, Perez, Raikkonen, Gutierrez and Nasr have to leave the pitch.

Q3 – Verstappen, Rosberg, Ricciardo, Alonso, Hulkenberg, Vettel, Button, Bottas, Sainz and Hamilton are ready to chase pole. Rosberg takes the lead but Hamilton overtakes him shortly after in 1:20.108. Ricciardo is third ahead of Verstappen, Sainz, Hulkenberg, Button and Alonso. Vettel comes out among the last and takes the fifth fastest time while Alonso moves to seventh position ahead of Button. The checkered flag waves and the drivers prepare for the final flying lap. But the yellow flag is waving: Alonso's McLaren has spun and is stopped on the side of the track. Hamilton thus fails to improve while Rosberg does, who drops to 1:19.965 and takes pole position for the Hungarian GP.
