F1 | Turkish GP, the rain penalizes the Ferraris at Istanbul Park

Scuderia Ferrari's qualifying at Istanbul Park, scene of the eighth Turkish Grand Prix, was extremely difficult. For the third time this season, after the races in Belgium and Italy, neither of the two SF1000s made it into Q3 in a session heavily affected by rain. Just like in Austria, the only other wet qualifying this season, it was not possible to get the tires to work in the correct temperature window on the SF1000s. Consequently, Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc will start from 13.10th and 11.10th place on the starting grid tomorrow at 12pm local time (14am CET).

Q1. A lot of rain fell before qualifying although at 15pm, when the traffic light at the end of the pitlane turned green, it was no longer raining. As always happens in the case of wet qualifying, all the drivers took to the track immediately and Seb and Charles opted for intermediate tires obtaining 2'09"970, sufficient at that moment to qualify for Q2, and 2'10"890 respectively. , 16th half. After eight minutes it started raining again and both Ferraris returned to change tyres. However, the track soon became impassable and the session was suspended with the red flag. After a long break, Q1 resumed and both Seb and Charles managed to qualify with, respectively, 2'03”356 and 2'04”464.

Q2. In the second phase, once again all the cars immediately entered the track on extreme wet tyres, with the sole exception of the two McLarens. Seb and Charles continued to lap but struggled more than the others to get their tires up to temperature and were unable to obtain useful times to access the final phase of qualifying. Vettel's best result was 1'55”169, 12th, while Charles stopped at 1'56”696, 14th. Both drivers will therefore start from the dirty side of the grid which, given the already critical surface conditions, promises to be a further handicap.
