F1 | GP Styria, bitter qualifying for Alfa Romeo

Saturday to forget at Alfa Romeo Racing. The two standard bearers of the Biscione team did not go beyond the sixteenth and nineteenth times, with Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi forced, like last Sunday, into a comeback race on the Red Bull Ring track. The driver from Martina Franca in the final stages of the first heat, also due to the adverse weather conditions, hit the barriers, losing some parts on his car and forcing the race direction to close Q1 prematurely.

"It's disappointing to go out in Q1 because today we had decent speed, much better than last week, but in the end we couldn't make it – said Kimi -. We had the potential for a good result and our times looked really good. I was doing some good laps at the start of the session, but I hit some traffic and was unlucky. I was putting everything on the line in the last attempt, I was improving, but then the red flag prevented me from finishing the lap. It's a wasted opportunity, but tomorrow we will try to recover positions. The conditions will probably be different, it will be a different day: we will do our best".

"It was a difficult session, even though we were really strong at the start. We needed something special on the last lap, I tried to push as much as possible to get the position, but unfortunately I hit the wall at the penultimate corner, losing the rear – admitted Giovi -. It's a shame because I was improving my time by almost a second and I think I would have made it to Q2. Tomorrow could be dry, so we will have completely different conditions. We start from the back, like last week, but just like we did last Sunday we will have to keep the race going. We know we have the pace to recover, so we won't give up".
