Only six thousandths separate the two Mercedes, Vettel sixth

F1 | Silverstone GP: Bottas mocks Hamilton, Leclerc third

Qualifying for the Silverstone Grand Prix recently ended. Valtteri Bottas took pole position, beating his teammate, Lewis Hamilton. Third time for Charles Leclerc, author of a perfect lap at the end which however was not enough for pole. Fourth time for Max Verstappen, ahead of the other Red Bull of Pierre Gasly.

Only sixth place for Sebastian Vettel ahead of Daniel Ricciardo. Excellent performance for rookies Lando Norris and Alexander Albon; Nico Hulkenberg's other Renault closes the top 10.

A qualifying where once again Mercedes dominated. Ferrari disappointed expectations a bit after the brilliant FP3. However, tomorrow promises to be a tough race, given that the first four riders are within 183 thousandths of a second.



Let's see what happened on the track with our recap.

News – Q1: 18 degrees in the air and 29 on the asphalt. Green flag and the first installation laps begin with the two Toro Rossos, the two Alfa Romeos, Nico Hulkenberg and Lance Stroll.

The first time of 1:27:710 goes to Antonio Giovinazzi, Kimi Raikkonen mocks him but then it is the turn of Alexander Albon and Romain Grosjean.
Sainz in the lead with 1:26.689, Albon takes back first position but Lando Norris does better than him. Gasly moves into third position.

Leclerc in the lead, new track record with 1:25.628 but Hamilton mocks him with 1:25.513. Vettel moves into fourth position, Leclerc improves slightly and moves within 20 thousandths of Hamilton.

We arrive 5 minutes from time, Bottas doesn't improve and remains fourth. Antonio Giovinazzi saves himself for Q2 and climbs to tenth position.
Checkered flag! The excluded drivers are: Magnussen, Kvyat, Stroll, Russell and Kubica.

Q2 – Bottas takes the lead with 1:25.888, Hamilton does better than him with 1:25.840. Ricciardo climbs to third position, Leclerc sets the pace with 1:25.646. Vettel maintains eighth position, while Bottas climbs to second, 26 thousandths behind Leclerc.

The top five drivers (Leclerc, Bottas, Hamilton, Verstappen and Gasly) are on yellow tyres.

Checkered flag! Drivers excluded: Giovinazzi, Raikkonen, Sainz, Grosjean and Perez.

Q3 – Lewis Hamilton immediately jumps in for the first attempt, in the last 4 years he has always been the pole man. Bottas takes provisional pole with 1:25.093. Max Verstappen climbs to third position behind the Mercedes, Leclerc closes in fourth position.

Norris climbs to eighth place, while Albon confirms tenth place.

Leclerc very fast, Bottas doesn't improve. Hamilton remains behind the Finn by six thousandths.

And we get to the checkered flag, Leclerc third at 79 thousandths, fourth fastest for Verstappen! Four drivers in 183 thousandths and it's POLE POSITION for Valtteri Bottas!
