Portugal grappling with a new Coronavirus emergency
F1 | GP Portugal, is the government considering a race behind closed doors?

Due to the sharp increase in the number of Covid-19 infected people and a series of rules aimed at containing the emergency, the Portuguese government is reportedly considering closing doors for the next Portuguese Grand Prix, the 12th round of this 2020 world championship. Formula 1.

Although the initial plan envisaged 50 spectators spread over the course of the three-day race, the organisers, assisted by the national government, are reportedly considering an event without the presence of spectators, in order to contain the new wave which is slowly expanding in the country. A painful choice, especially for the fans, but necessary to safeguard public health and the risk of a new lockdown.

We remind you that Portugal will be the focal point of motorsport in the coming weeks: in addition to Formula 1, which will return to the country after 24 years (the last edition took place in 1996 on the Estoril circuit and was won by Jacques Villeneuve) , Portimao will host the last round of this 22 MotoGP world championship on November 2020nd.

An important month, prepared in every detail, which will serve as the stage for one of the most spectacular and modern tracks in the European panorama. See you next Friday for the first two free practice sessions from the Algarve.
