F1 GP Great Britain: Hamilton on pole ahead of Rosberg

Lewis Hamilton will start from pole position at the British F1 GP. The Mercedes Englishman beat his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg. Third position on the grid for Max Verstappen ahead of the other Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo. Kimi Raikkonen is fifth with Ferrari ahead of Sebastian Vettel who will be penalized by five positions on the grid and will therefore start 11th.

The two Manors were immediately on track in Q1, followed by everyone else. Rosberg took the lead ahead of Hamilton, Verstappen and Bottas. Shortly afterwards the two Ferraris moved into fourth and fifth place. Button, Palmer, Haryanto, Wehrlein and Nasr eliminated in Q1. At the end of Q1 Button gets back in the car because they warn him of an investigation into Magnussen which could put him back in the game for Q2 but the race direction didn't make a decision in time and the Renault driver went on track anyway.

In Q2 the two Mercedes of Rosberg and Hamilton were immediately in action while Raikkonen was the author of a spin. Hamilton lapped in 1.29.243, a track record, beating Rosberg by 7 tenths. Verstappen moved into third place ahead of Vettel. Shortly afterwards Raikkonen exited the hot zone, moving into sixth position and Alonso climbed to ninth position and entered Q3. Perez, Massa, Grosjean, Gutierrez, Kvyat, Magnussen eliminated.

In Q3 the Mercedes were immediately on track, Hamilton took provisional pole with 1.29.339 but his time was canceled for having exceeded track limits. Rosberg then found himself in the lead while Vettel was the author of a great sideways control at Stowe. On the second attempt, however, Hamilton managed to snatch pole from Rosberg by lapping in 1.29.287! Rosberg remains second ahead of Verstappen, Ricciardo, Raikkonen, Vettel, Bottas, Hulkenberg, Sainz and Alonso. Vettel will be penalized five places on the grid and will therefore start 11th.
