Speaking on Sky Sport yesterday, Leo Turrini recalled the historic 1989 Japanese Grand Prix, underlining how that race in Suzuka started the terrible rivalry between Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna.

In that race, we remember, the two McLaren standard-bearers came into contact at the triangle chicane, with the Frenchman choosing to get out of the car, now certain of the world title (the Brazilian had to win to keep the games open. Ed.). Senna, however, decided to return to the track and perform the miracle, starting again and winning the race ahead of Nannini.

Due to cutting the chicane, however, the Brazilian was disqualified at the end of the race, with Alain Prost becoming world champion for the second time. A very hard blow for the green and gold driver, who returned the favor the following year, with the contact at the first corner (in that case the retirement gave the title to Senna. ed.).
