Carlos Sainz flies, Hamilton takes his fourth consecutive podium, Perez disappoints

F1 | French GP, the report cards: Leclerc unforgivable mistake, Verstappen solid

Max Verstappen 9 Imperturbable and rock-like, at his seventh victory of the season, he is always there, while around him everyone makes mistakes, falls, gets up and falls again, in a seesaw of performances that in the long run is favoring him quite a bit. The consistency of the reigning champion is impressive, it is no coincidence that he is dominating the world championship despite not having the fastest single-seater. He never makes mistakes, and it shows.

Charles Leclerc 4 On a track with escape routes that are motorways, where it takes a real feat to put the car against the wall, Leclerc proves to have a certain talent in this too, going into the barriers when he was first and with excellent prospects of victory. Charles loses his rear after the very fast Signes, in an instant, a stupid and unforgivable instant which however has the same consequences as the fall of a meteorite on Ferrari's world championship ambitions. Too bad, too bad, because he was racing at Leclerc. Self-criticism is appreciated. He will make up for it, returning to excite the Ferrari audience.

lewis hamilton 9 He burns Perez at the start and keeps a monstrous pace, considering the potential of the Mercedes W13. The seven-time world champion is on his fourth consecutive podium, all four very good, and confirms that he is the champion ever.

George Russel 8 For some races Hamilton's performance has suffered a little more, but the way he mocks Perez on the restart after the virtual safety car, snatching the podium from him, is an anthology. Smart and fast.

Sergio Perez 4,5 He sleeps at the start, sleeps at the restart, gets mocked by both Mercedes, suffers a masterpiece overtaking from Sainz. He was fourth at the finish line, but he was the big loser of the day.

Carlos Sainz 10 To make more than twenty overtakes - starting nineteenth and finishing fifth - despite a slow pit stop and a penalty (the team's fault), you need, in order: class, wickedness and a full symbiosis with the car. The first races in which Sainz struggled with the F1-75 are long gone. At Paul Ricard, his best performance of the season, the Spaniard puts on a show. The overtaking on the outside on Russell, on Alonso and on Perez are three magic tricks. Red Fury.

Fernando Alonso 7,5 The Spaniard gets off to a flying start and overtakes Norris, then keeping him behind for the entire GP. The sixth place, in addition to being its second best result of the season after the fifth at Silverstone, is very precious for Alpine which also thanks to the eighth place Esteban Ocon (6,5) completes overtaking McLaren in the standings.

Lando Norris 7 Really good in qualifying, where he kept Russell's Mercedes behind. In the race he does what he can, currently McLaren is not at Alpine's level.

Lance Stroll 6,5 Thanks to an excellent strategy he finished in the points, among other things in the sprint ahead of Sebastian Vettel (6), Aston confirms its discreet race pace. But in qualifying the car is too slow.

Pierre Gasly 5 AlphaTauri brought many new features to France to give meaning to their season, but the Frenchman was the author of another anonymous race, spent managing the medium tyres, without ever being able to fight for the points zone.

Valtteri Bottas 5 Convoluted like Alfa Romeo. Hinwill seems to have lost his bearings a bit. Valtteri seems like the stand-in for the brilliant driver of the first 9 races.

Kevin Magnussen5 Complicated weekend, he retires due to engine problems (again), but not before ramming the innocent Latifi.

Mick Schumacher 6 Sometimes luck is a matter of millimeters, like those of track limits. A weekend ruined by an absurd decision that relegated him to the last positions on the starting grid. But can you really think of taking away a lap like this from a driver for having "exceeded" the track limit by a trifle? He was called for a millimetric offside which, when looked at better, wasn't even offside. Decisions like this do not respect the regulation, they betray its spirit.
