F1 | Brazilian GP, Bottas on the future: "I already have my own strategy for the title"

Interviewed by the international press during the opening press conference of the next Brazilian Grand Prix, the penultimate round of this 2019 Formula 1 world championship, Valtteri Bottas spoke about his plans for the future, underlining how a plan for counter Lewis Hamilton in 2020.

Despite the good performances this year, in fact, the Finn does not intend to get closer to second place, an aspect that will push him to improve during the next winter break. As for Brazil, however, the Mercedes standard bearer underlined how important Interlagos is for the calendar, a factor that the organizers must take into consideration, especially if a transfer to Rio were to be considered.

“Being part of this team that is breaking all records means a lot to me,” said Valtteri Bottas during the press conference. “It was nice to contribute to the team's successes. It was probably one of my best seasons, at least overall, but we need more consistency and fewer mistakes. We are starting to see the work done with the engineers and on myself. I worked on many of my weak points and this is important. For the rest, I have the opportunity to win again this season and I hope to carry this positive wave next year too."

On Brazil he instead declared: “Time passes, but the memory of Senna does not weaken. His career has motivated many young people, me for example, to be better. He left an indelible mark. Precisely for this reason it is important that Brazil remains within the calendar."

Rio Chapter: “Interlagos is an iconic track and it would be a shame to lose it. But on the other hand, knowing other routes wouldn't be bad either. The important thing, as I said, is that Brazil retains a GP.”

The Finn subsequently touched on the topic of 2021, underlining how the steps taken are the right ones: “One of the aspects of the new regulation is the budget cap, but there are others too. There could be closer battles, we should see less big differences and I can't wait to get in those cars to understand what the races will be like. They seem like the right steps to me."

Finally, conclusion on personal plans for the future and Mercedes' permanence in F1: “I have always had plans to achieve my goals differently. I have always preferred to talk on the track, losing energy in other things would waste it on driving. I have a plan for 2020, but I'm not sharing it now. Mercedes? You never know about the future of the teams, but I'm optimistic."
