F1 | Belgian GP, Domenicali on the various postponements: "There were no commercial implications"
"Despite the disappointment, the management was fair", underlined the CEO of the Circus
The 2021 edition of the Belgian Grand Prix will unfortunately be remembered for the few kilometers contested by the drivers late yesterday afternoon before the final suspension of the race. A little theatrics that could have been avoided, but at the same time the CEO of Formula 1 Stefano Domenicali admitted that the decision to take to the track despite the adverse weather conditions was not dictated by commercial obligations.
"When I hear that there was some commercial discussion beyond that, it's absolutely not true. When we talk about racing there is responsibility, there is a clear process and these things are not connected at all – declared Domenicali, quoted by RaceFans – It is wrong to consider it as something related to a commercial implication. For people it's obviously a shame because everyone wants to see a real race. But I think that the decision taken by the race direction is absolutely correct".
Domenicali, completing his analysis, then added: "There was the desire to compete in the race and as soon as there was information, I followed the situation. There was a window of possible weather improvement to try to go and try. Then, as soon as we started again, the decisions were quite clear. Despite the disappointment for everyone, I think in terms of management it was the right thing to do".
