F1 | GP Baku, Raikkonen starts again but doesn't have the steering wheel: here's his crazy radio team

Race interrupted, Red flag. Everyone in the pitlane, ready to set off again after the stewards have cleared the track of any debris lost along the way. For Kimi Raikkonen it seemed like the race was over, destroyed right from the start due to those contacts with Bottas. He was still, in his box. But the mechanics Ferrari they managed to work a miracle, repairing his destroyed floor within a few minutes and bringing him back into the race with just one lap behind. Standing ovation work.

Too bad that, however, they were sending their number 7 on track... without steering wheel! And how could Raikkonen have driven without a steering wheel? “Steering wheels! Someone tell him to give it to me! Come on! Move!” (translation: “The steering wheel, the steering wheel” Someone tell him to give it to me! Come on, move!”).

Angry Kimi Raikkonen @ GP Baku 2017

Restart of the race after the red flag. While the work on the SF70-H #7 was being completed, a mechanic, probably worried about the precarious positioning of the steering wheel on the nose in those excited phases, took it and moved it away from Raikkonen. Who, not having the steering wheel of his car when the mechanics were repositioning him in the Pit Lane, seems to have performed what is perhaps one of the most beautiful Team Radios ever. Not even to believe it Finnish, who from inside his car tried to communicate with his mechanic, shouting loudly at him to give him back the steering wheel which, on the contrary, he held tightly while Kimi cursed. The video was obviously edited later, and the radio team was edited at the same time as the images to make viewers understand what the moment in question was. And even if the writing "team radio Raikkonen" does not appear as normally happens on the right, the communication actually took place and, we repeat, edited into the video superimposed on the corrected images. Furthermore, the possibility of communicating with one's wall is also given by a button inside the passenger compartment, and not only on the steering wheel which, in fact, was not there in this case.

This, in addition to representing a moment between the desperate and the comical, shows how much tension there is on the track and how much Kimi himself was focused on doing well. And once again Iceman gave us an epic radio team, much better than “Leave me alone, I know what I'm doing”.
