F1 | Baku GP, Bearman misses Q3 on qualifying debut with Haas
Bearman: "High hopes for the race"; Hulkenberg: "Really thin margins"
F1 Haas GP Baku – Qualifying of absolute importance for Oliver Bearman in Baku, the theatre of the next Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Despite the contact with the barriers in the morning's free practice 3, the Englishman confirmed himself as fast and competitive at the wheel of the VF-23, obtaining the 11th position on the starting grid, which gives him hope for this afternoon's race. A convincing performance that confirmed, if there was any need, the qualities of the young Ferrari Driver Academy standard-bearer. Nico Hulkenberg, on the other hand, fared worse, 14th and still not totally satisfied with the feeling with the single-seater.

“I think some teams found a bit more speed than us, and again, in the midfield, it’s really thin margins. On my side, I couldn’t improve the time enough on the last attempt in Q2; I struggled a bit in the second sector to find the right feeling and harmony. We were aiming for a better position, but in Q2 we couldn’t improve enough on the second set of new tyres, and that explains the final result.”
Bearman misses Q3 in Baku
“It was a tough session. I was lucky to get into Q2 because there were double yellow flags that cost me a lot of time, but I managed to get through by the skin of my teeth. We were really on the limit to get into Q3, if it wasn’t for the mistake I made in the castle section. I’m quite disappointed with myself, not so much for qualifying itself, but for FP3, where I lost a lot of laps and experience. I felt very comfortable in the car yesterday during the run with a lot of fuel, so I have high hopes for tomorrow.”
