F1 | Bahrain GP: disappointing qualifying for the McLaren drivers
Norris and Piastri will have to recover from eleventh and eighteenth position on the starting grid
The pilots of the team McLaren, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, concluded qualifying for the Bahrain Grand Prix, the first event of the season, in eleventh and eighteenth position respectively. Both drivers, despite being disappointed with their qualifying performances, hope to be able to improve in the race.
Lando Norris: “Eleventh position in the first qualifying of the year, I'd say I'm quite happy with this. I think we pretty much got everything out of the car. Maybe we still had a tenth available, but I needed two tenths to gain positions. It was a tough qualifying, it was very sandwiched between the whole middle of the grid and also between the best cars, to be honest. It was a little better than I thought going into the session, so we'll take that. It will be a long race and this is a track we can overtake on, so hopefully we can move forward."
Oscar piastri: “Obviously it wasn't what we wanted. The red flag (exhibited to remove the debris left on the track by Leclerc, ed.) compromised our qualifying and with the second set of tires I was unable to improve. Having said that, it was my first F1 qualifying and it's a long season. We'll do our homework and see what we can do."
