F1 | GP Azerbaijan, work is underway to renew the contract expiring this year

Negotiations started between Formula One Group and the managers of the Baku plant for the protection of Azerbaijan Grand Prix, whose contract with Liberty Media and FIA will expire at the end of this championship. According to what was stated by Turab Teymurov, responsible for communications of the circuit Baku, the parties have met several times in recent weeks and the common desire would be to confirm one of the fastest and most fascinating tests of the entire championship on the calendar.

“It is no secret that we are waiting for the successful conclusion of the negotiations with Formula 1,” said Teymurov. “At the moment, however, we cannot reveal any details of the discussions we are carrying out with the relevant entities.”

On possible changes to the track he instead declared: “We will not change the layout of the track. We are completely resurfacing it, but the layout will remain the same as that used in recent seasons. We will host the race in the heart of the old city and guarantee drivers the right mix of twisty sections and high-speed sprints. The new asphalt will only improve what we already have."
